2018 International Artists Competition Competition

The Gina Bachauer International Piano Foundation is pleased to present the XVII Gina Bachauer International Artists Piano Competition, held June 10 – June 23, 2018 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The event marks 42 years of Bachauer competitions inviting the world’s most elite pianists to Utah to compete for cash, prizes, and fame.

 

Forty pianists, ages 19-32 will each perform two solo recitals in Quarterfinal Rounds I and II. Twelve pianists will then be chosen to compete in the Semifinal Round. Three pianists will then be chosen to continue the medal quest, and invited to perform in the Final Round, each performing twice with the Utah Symphony in two evenings of concerto performances.

 

Join us at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, June 11-19 for brilliant solo performances. Then don’t miss the thrilling conclusion: two evenings of concerto performances, June 22-23 with the Utah Symphony at Abravanel Hall.

Cash Award of $50,000 and Commemorative Gold Medal New York City Concert Engagement Recording Contract on the Arkiv Label (donated by Steinway & Sons) Concerto Engagement with Utah Symphony Additional Concert Engagements Bachauer CD Recording of selected repertory
SECOND PRIZE
Cash Award of $25,000 and Commemorative Silver Medal Concerto Engagement with Utah Symphony Additional Concert Engagements Bachauer CD Recording of selected repertory
THIRD PRIZE
Cash Award of $15,000 and Commemorative Bronze Medal Concert Engagements Bachauer CD Recording of selected repertory
SEMI-FINALIST PRIZES
Cash Award of $1,500 to each of the nine competitors who reach the Semifinals
AUDIENCE FAVORITE PRIZE
Cash Award of $1,000 to the audience favorite chosen from the three Finalists
SASHA GORODNITZKY FOUNDATION DISCRETIONARY PRIZE
Cash Award of $1,000 at Jury’s discretion to a non-finalist

Opening Gala
6:30 pm: Meet the Quarterfinalists and the Competition Jury, and be part of the excitement as the Competitors draw numbers to determine when they perform.
Jun 11-12
Quarterfinal Round I
1:00 pm-3:00 pm, 3:30 pm-5:30 pm, 7:30 pm-9:30 pm
Each Competitor performs a 20-minute concert.
Jun 13-16
Quarterfinal Round II
1:00 pm-3:00 pm, 3:30 pm-5:30 pm, 7:30 pm-9:30 pm
Each Competitor performs a 40-minute concert.

Semifinalists Announcement
Approximately 9:30 pm. After jury deliberation, twelve Semifinalists will be chosen to perform in the Semifinal Round.

Each Competitor performs a 60-minute concert.

Finalists Announcement

An 18th century concerto performed with the Utah Symphony, chosen from Concerto List No. 1 (View Concerto List).
