After advancing through five rounds of competition, 3 pianists were named the 2024 Gina Bachauer International Artists Piano Competition Gold, Silver, and Bronze Medalists.
 
Youl Sun, Carter Johnson, and Wynona Yinuo Wang performed in the Final Round over the last two days, thrilling audiences as standing ovations, curtain calls, and shouts of bravo filled the Abravanel performance hall.
 
Following the performances, the long-awaited Awards Ceremony commenced, announcing winners of the First, Second, and Third Prizes.
 
In addition to winning the Gold Medal, Youl Sun was the recipient of the Audience Choice Prize and Student Jury Prize.
 
Carter Johnson won the Prize for Best Performance of the Commissioned Work, a new composition by Gabriela Lena Frank entitled Two Andean Portraits.
 
Hyojin Shin was the recipient of the Sascha Gorodnitzki Discretionary Prize, awarded at Jury's discretion to a non-finalist.
 
The competition began with 333 candidates representing 40 different countries. 120 pianists gave performances as part of Preliminary Round events held in Hamburg (Germany), New York City (USA), Hong Kong (China), and Salt Lake City (USA). 31 performed in Salt Lake City during Quarterfinal Rounds I and II. 12 performed 60-minute concerts during the Semifinal Round, and 3 continued on to the finals.

Opening Ceremony
7 pm: Meet the Quarterfinalists, International Jury Members, and Host Homes. Quarterfinalists will draw numbers to determine performance order.
Jun 17-18
Quarterfinal Round I
Each of the Quarterfinalists performs a 20-minute program over a two-day period.
Jun 19-22
Quarterfinal Round II
Each of the Quarterfinalists performs a 40-minute program over a four-day period.
Jun 22
Semifinalist Announcement
After jury deliberation, twelve Semifinalists will be chosen to perform in the Semifinal Round.
Jun 24-25
Semifinal Round
Each of the 12 Semifinalists performs a one-hour program over a two-day period, including a newly-commissioned work by Gabriela Frank.

Finalist Announcement
After jury deliberation, three Finalists will be chosen to perform in the Final Round.

Final Round I
7 pm: The 3 Finalists perform with the Utah Symphony at Abravanel Hall in concertos of Mozart and Beethoven.

Final Round II
7 pm: The 3 Finalists perform with the Utah Symphony at Abravanel Hall in concertos of Rachmaninoff and Prokofiev.

Awards Ceremony
Prizes and Medals will be awarded following the Final Round II performances.
