2024 Gina Bachauer International Artists Piano Competition

Every few years, the world’s most promising pianists convene in Salt Lake City for the prestigious Bachauer Artists Competition to compete for fame, cash, and prizes. The event returns in June 2024, marking 48 years of welcoming the world’s most elite pianists to Utah.

 

37 pianists, representing 11 countries, will now compete in Salt Lake City this June.

 

They will vie for $106,000 US in prizes and have the opportunity to perform with the Utah Symphony in Abravanel Hall this June in Salt Lake City.

 

Twelve will be chosen to perform a new composition by acclaimed composer Gabriela Frank in the Semifinal Round.

 

Three pianists will compete in the Final Round, each performing twice with the Utah Symphony in two evenings of concerto performances

Opening Gala
Meet the Quarterfinalists, International Jury Members, and Host Homes. Quarterfinalists will draw numbers to determine performance order.
June 17-18
Quarterfinal Round I
Each of the Quarterfinalists performs a 20-minute program over a two-day period. 1 pm to 3pm, 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
June 19-22
Quarterfinal Round II
Each of the Quarterfinalists performs a 40-minute program over a four-day period.1 pm to 3pm, 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
June 22
Semifinalist Announcement
After jury deliberation, twelve Semifinalists will be chosen to perform in the Semifinal Round.
June 24-25
Semifinal Round
Each of the 12 Semifinalists performs a one-hour program over a two-day period, including a newly-commissioned work by Gabriela Frank. 1 pm to 3pm, 3:30 pm to 5:30 pm, 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm.
June 25
Finalist Announcement
After jury deliberation, three Finalists will be chosen to perform in the Final Round.
June 28, 7 pm
Final Round I
The 3 Finalists perform with the Utah Symphony at Abravanel Hall in concertos of Mozart and Beethoven.
June 29, 7 pm
Final Round II
The 3 Finalists perform with the Utah Symphony at Abravanel Hall in concertos of 19th and 20th-century composers.
June 29, 9:30 pm
Awards Ceremony
Prizes and Medals will be awarded following the Final Round II performances.
